SCOUTING FOR BOYS
Robert Baden-Powell’s Scouting for Boys was first published in 1908 and became one of the best-selling Anglophone works of the twenties.Ìý Within a year it had given birth to a 107,000 strong Boy Scout Movement.
To get a better understanding of that book’s enormous success and the manner in which it stimulated a world-wide movement that still successfully endures, Laurie Taylor spoke with the author of the new introduction to Scouting for Boys, Elleke Boehmer, Professor of Colonial and Post ColonialÌýStudies at Nottingham Trent University and Jay Mechling, Professor of American Studies at the University of California and the author of On My Honor: Boy Scouts and the Making of American Youth.
