Laurie Taylor talks to investigative journalist and author Fran Abrams about her experience of living for three months on the minimum wage. She worked for four weeks as a night-cleaner at the Savoy hotel, where it was a struggle just "keeping body and soul" as one fellow-cleaner put it. From there Fran moved north to work as a pickle packer in Doncaster and finally became a care assistant in a private nursing home for the elderly in Aberdeenshire. Those were the jobs but as for the rest, how do you live on the minimum wage; how to afford a place to call home, eat healthily and enjoy a social life on approximately Β£4.10 an hour? That was the challenge facing Fran.
Laurie invites historian , principal of Mansfield College, Faculty of Modern History, University of Oxford and Andrew Calcutt, journalist, author and academic at the University of East London to debate the latter's contention that Aristotle no less might have considered the Prime Minister dangerously low on logos.
