Laurie Taylor talks to Kate Berridge, author of Vigor Mortis: The End of the Death Taboo, in which she which looks at the end of the death taboo in modern society, and Dr Tony Walter, who runs a degree course in Death and Society at Reading University.
They look at how the Victorians dealt with death and compare it with 21st century attitudes. How do we cope with death, funerals, and the grieving process? Is death really our final taboo and have we confronted it?
Laurie also looks at the rise of right wing politics in France and reflects on the word "fascism" and wonders, as Trotsky and Orwell did, and as many others have wondered, if it has any meaning beyond denoting something undesirable?
He will be joined by the eminent sociologist and cultural theorist Professor Stuart Hall and together they will try to find current meaning for the term coined by Mussolini over 80 years ago.
