Laurie Taylor talks to journalist and author Amira Hass, an Israeli Jew who's chosen to report the Palestinian experience of the Middle East peace process. For the past eight years, she's lived in the Palestinian territories, first in Gaza and then in the West Bank town of Ramallah.
In her columns for , an Israeli newspaper, and in her book Drinking the Sea at Gaza: Days and Nights Under Siege Amira has sought to tell fellow-Israelis, and anyone else interested, that whatever their and our hopes for this particular peace process, the Palestinians have good reason to feel that Israel has, and is, maintaining a fierce grip on every aspect of their daily life.
Laurie will also be talking to John Brewer, Head of Sociology, Queens University Belfast and a long-time student of ethno-religious conflicts and division. Professor Brewer is working on Ending Violence in which he compares the Northern Irish peace process with its South African counterpart and is exploring various ways of institutionalising violent conflict in socially manageable and acceptable ways.
