7 things to take your mind off how miserable this week is

Struggling with #BlueMonday? Us too. Experts predict that Monday 16 January is the most depressing day of the year.

New Year's cheer is long gone and the first payday of the year, for most of us, is still two weeks away. The weather and (oh yeah) what's going on around the world probably isn't helping matters either, those same experts say.

But, it's not all doom and gloom. Here's 7 things from Radio 1 and beyond that might just take the edge of this darkest of weeks. We hope it helps.

Future Festival

This week, we’ll be broadcasting the 2017 Future Festival, Radio 1's annual showcase of the hottest new talent and this year's crop of artists are sure to put a smile on your face.

The likes of , , and will be offering rare rays of sunshine in the bleakest week of the year. It's almost like we planned it that way...

Big new albums

It has been two years since released his second album x and swiftly became one of the biggest popstars in the world. His next record is ÷ will be released on 3 March 2017 and already includes two top ten singles, Shape Of You and Castle On The Hill.

We are also currently waiting for first international album to follow hits Lush Life, I Would Like and Ain't My Fault and there's also records from , , and in the pipeline.

Then, of course, there's solo albums from Harry Styles, Liam Payne and on the horizon. That's kinda exciting too, right?

Jan Slam

Already in January, we've given away tickets to see , and plus given away exclusive prizes from the likes of , , and so many more.

We know January can be a dark, dark month so we wanted to give you a little something extra to brighten things up. Plus, it makes for great radio.

Awards season

Whether it's falling down the stairs in 2015 of SLAYING the stage in 2016, The BRIT Awards always gives us must-see TV and this year's show promises to be a corker.

Already, pulled out of the show's launch for failing to pick up a nomination and has gone public with her upset and not getting a nom. So there's some much-needed controversy surrounding the show already, along with more upbeat news that this year's nominees are the most diverse ever, with stars from the UK's grime and urban scenes being recognised in 2017.

Little Mix, and have already been announced for this year's show on 22 February, and we're well on board with all of these.

Oh, and then there's the little matter of The Grammys on 12 February and The Oscars on 26 February.

Radio 1's Big Weekend

How do you top , , and The 1975 in Exeter from 2016?

Radio 1's Big Weekend is one of our favourite weekends of the year. We don't know what to expect in 2017, but one things for sure, we are very much looking forward to it.

Glastonbury

You'll want to make the most of Glastonbury 2017, because it's not happening in 2018.

Last year , and headlined the event and there are strong rumours that our sweet ginger prince, Ed Sheeran, will be joining Radiohead on the top of the bill. and are also strongly rumoured to be performing - which would make an almighty line-up for one of the world's biggest and best festivals.

Radio 1's The Surgery

Olly Alexander from Years & Years on his mental health journey

Olly talks openly about his mental health experiences.

And if none of this can pull you from your 2017 slump, then maybe we can direct you towards The Surgery at 9pm on Wednesday nights? They've always got the best advice on the biggest issues.

Already this year Olly Alexander from has spoken about how he copes and 1Xtra's Mim Shaikh has spoken about living with a close relative struggling with depression and there's plenty more to come on mental health and loads more topics besides.
