How to have a happy January: Say "yes" more

It can be hard to keep positive in January, with cold days and long nights making every effort to bring us down.

So we’ve been asking the stars of Radio 1 and some of the big name guests who’ve visited our studios for their advice on keeping happy during this darkest of months.

We asked often-drenched Chris Stark for his suggestion for having a happy January and he said yes – quite literally. He said to “say yes”.

“I want to say yes more to stuff. I find I cop out of things too easily,” says Chris.

"It will lead to opportunities you may never have been on the route to"

“I want to try and say yes unless I have to say no. There's a film and a book called The Yes Man and it's such a brilliant idea, even though it can put you in what you might deem to be negative situations, but it always ends up opening other doors that you wouldn't expect.”

And Chris has personal experience of how saying yes can have a big impact on your life.

“Recently I went on a night out and I really wasn't in the mood for it at all. I had to wear a suit, I didn't feel comfortable and I was going to make an excuse to not go. But I went along to this thing and met this dude there and we've become good friends out of it.

“That's the point. If you say yes more, it will lead to opportunities you may never have been on the route to."
