Congratulations are in order for ’s , who won his first solo award at last night’s People’s Choice Awards, being named Favourite Breakout Artist. Niall – who dropped his debut single This Town in September – wasn’t present at the ceremony, but took to Twitter to thank his fans.

“Well that's something to wake up to. thank you so much for voting for me, I really appreciate it... amazing,” wrote the 1D star. Niall joins the ranks of boyband stars who have gone on to solo success, including all these guys…

After departing One Direction in March 2015, released his first solo album, Mind Of Mine, which topped the charts in the UK and US. Zayn was also nominated for Favourite Breakout Artist at the People’s Choice Awards, but we’re sure he didn’t mind missing out to his old bandmate, Niall.
