7 stars who tick all the right boxes to be the next Doctor Who
Who will be the next Doctor Who?
Peter Capaldi is leaving the show but does Nick Grimshaw fancy taking his place?
Peter Capaldi broke one of our two Gallifreyan hearts when he announced that he would be leaving Doctor Who after the 2017 Christmas special.
But, this does mean that the door is now open for a new Doctor and a new lease of life for the regenerating time traveller as new names are suggested to take his place.
But while the likes of and Matty Healy might seem unusual choices for the next Time Lord, here's the criteria that needs to be filled and why some of our favourite stars would make the perfect new owner of the Tardis.
Has GREAT hair
Doctor Who has a history of fantastic hair. At least, he has in recent years.
From David Tennant's perfectly styled shaggy mop to Peter Capaldi's distinguished silver locks - the Doctor has become especially stylish of late. We've lost days of our lives staring at Matt Smith's spectacular swish.
So who can live up to these lofty heights? Well probably only Dan Smith from , who the owner and master of pop music's finest quiff. We don't know about his acting skills, but we do know he is a huge fan of TV drama, writing Bastille's hit single Laura Palmer about the tragic character from David Lynch's Twin Peaks.
Has LOADS of female friends
Who wouldn't want to travel the universe with Nick Grimshaw? He even suggested himself for the next Doctor on this morning's Radio 1 Breakfast show.
Plus, just listen back to his recent chats with , Maisie Williams, Vicky Pattison and Scarlet Moffat - 10/10 for chemistry.
He's just as flirty with the boys as well, so let’s get things a bit more equal and a bit more 2017.
Has an EXCEPTIONAL interest in travel
The Time Lord job is not for the stay-at-home types. Travel is essential for whoever picks up where Peter Capaldi leaves off, with frequent trips through space and time an integral part of the role.
If you follow on Instagram, you'll know his life is ridiculous. Already in 2017 he's shared photos from California, Cuba, Texas, Las Vegas, Hong Kong, Bali, Japan, Taiwan, Jakarta, Singapore and Utah.
So a quick trip back to the 1800s to sort out some rogue aliens will be no big deal - especially when time travel will mean he won't have to miss out on his next headline festival slot.
Is EFFORTLESSLY complicated
Matty Healy is a complicated young chap.
When he's at Radio 1 to co-host The Breakfast Show with Nick Grimshaw, he's charming, hilarious and confident. Throw Sienna Miller in the mix and he is also something of a turbo-flirt.
But Matty is also a troubled introvert and passionate artist, who hints at turmoil in his work but who (now) tends to avoid revealing too much about the demons he has battled.
Sound like any time travelling aliens you can think of?
Looks REALLY good in a scarf
The iconic Doctor Who scarf hasn't featured so heavily in recent series of the show, but it's time to bring it back, and TBH, let’s not hold back.
When (and yes, it's time to start the female Doctor discussion too) performed at Radio 1's Big Weekend in 2014, she was serving scarf, so much scarf. That sort of scarf that deserves intergalactic recognition.
Get Katy, and her scarf, on the wish list.
Is ALWAYS ready with a sassy comeback
There are two essential tools Doctor Who uses to dispatch villainous aliens: his sonic screwdriver and his biting wit. No matter how grave the situation, you can always count on the Doctor to have a witty response ready.
And Alan Carr is nothing but witty responses. In fact, he's so funny he could probably do away with the screwdriver altogether and just bluster through alien planets, stranded spaceships and besieged scientists making them howl with laughter and forget they were all about to be blown out of an airlock.
Is SLIGHTLY older than you might think
Doctor Who is estimated to be well over 2,000 years old and yet he is still the coolest man in the universe.
is probably the only 44 year old on the Radio 1 playlist and he's hanging with the likes of and these days, so he's definitely got the whole age-defying career thing down to a tee.
Is the Tardis going to get lit tonight? It will if Sean Paul is twiddling the knobs, that's for sure.
