Marshall Marcus

Marshall Marcus is director of Espíritu Barroco Venezolano in Caracas and Southbank Centre’s Sistema Programme in London. He also advises the Venezuelan Social Action Music Centres.

He was previously Head of Music at the Southbank Centre, where he oversaw one of the world’s largest arts venue music programmes, and CEO of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, which he founded with colleagues in 1985.

A 25 year career as an orchestral, solo and chamber violinist included recording and performing in more than 50 countries. Marshall was a member of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Symphony Orchestra, Concertmaster of the Orquesta FilarmΓ³nica de Caracas, Professor within Venezuela’s Youth Orchestra System, Leader of the Orchestra of St. Johns, and Executive Director of Endymion Ensemble. He worked for many years in music education, designing projects from primary to university level, and teaching at institutions including the Royal Academy and the Royal College.

Marshall is a graduate of Oxford University (Philosophy and Experimental Psychology) and Cambridge University (English teaching).
