Lesley Hatfield

Leader of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ National Orchestra of Wales, Lesley Hatfield has established a distinguished career as orchestral leader, chamber musician, soloist and teacher.

After graduating with First Class Honours from Clare College, Cambridge, she studied at the Royal Academy of Music, gaining the Recital Diploma. During her early career she combined membership of a the Chamber Orchestra of Europe with chamber music playing, then became co-leader of Northern Sinfonia and leader of the Ulster Orchestra before taking up her current position.

Lesley has appeared regularly with Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ NOW as soloist and director, broadcasting on Radio 3, and also with other major UK orchestras. She is a member of the Gaudier Ensemble, with whom she has made a number of highly acclaimed recordings, and is often invited to appear with other groups, including the Hebrides and Nash ensembles and the International Musicians’ Seminar at Prussia Cove, and to guest-lead orchestras throughout the UK.

She is a fellow of the Royal Academy of Music and teaches at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
