Bet you didn't realise all these musicians have directed movies

P!nk and Sia chat to Greg James

And there’s some pretty exciting news from Sia!

In case you missed ’ interview with new collaborators and on Monday, we’ve got the lowdown on all their big news – particularly Sia turning feature film director.

“I’m just in the process of casting it, but literally it’s real, it’s financed and I have a producer. It’s a musical, so I’m focused on that 100%,” said Sia, on her first movie and plans for the rest of 2017.

While we await further news on Sia’s feature-length directorial debut, check out these musicians who have all made the transition to directing.

Madonna

Jo Whiley talks to Madonna

The Queen of Pop opens up about motherhood, lie-ins and that fall at the Brits...

Who knew? has directed not one, but two films: 2008’s Filth And Wisdom, a British comedy-drama following the lives of three flatmates living in London, and 2011 historical romance, W.E.

While neither movie was exactly critically acclaimed (L.A. Weekly’s Scott Foundas told Madge, “don’t quit your day job”), we’re confident there’s more to come from director Madonna and Semtex Films, the production company she founded in 2006.

Plan B

Released in 2012, ’s Ill Manors is one of the better-known examples of a musician successfully donning their film director hat, with Plan – real name Ben Drew – also writing and co-scoring the movie.

Set in Forest Gate, where Plan B grew up IRL, Ill Manors tells the sometimes grim tale of eight characters caught up in drug dealing and prostitution in East London. Well-received critically, we're awaiting Ben's next directorial venture with bated breath.

Prince

After the success of Purple Rain, which didn’t direct, he took over duties for its 1990 sequel. Sadly, Graffiti Bridge didn’t repeat the success of its predecessor, making just $4.6million at the box office to Purple Rain’s $293.7million.

While Purple Rain won an Oscar, a Grammy and a Brit Award, Graffiti Bridge had to make do with five Razzie nominations. Prince’s directorial debut, Under The Cherry Moon, hadn’t fared any better back in 1986 – it actually won five Razzies, and was nominated for an additional three. Ouch.

Fred Durst

Limp Bizkit

You probably weren’t aware of the frontman’s side hustle, but while the band was taking a break, Fred directed coming-of-age drama The Education Of Charlie Banks. Starring Jesse Eisenberg, the film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2007, winning the award for Best New York Narrative.

Fred followed Charlie Banks with The Longshots, a comedy based on real-life athlete Jasmine Plummer, who was the first female quarterback to participate in America’s Pop Warner football tournament. Starring a young Keke Palmer as Jasmine, with Ice Cube playing her uncle/coach, it’s a pretty sweet family sports film despite reportedly being a commercial flop (it grossed $11.8million worldwide on a $23million budget).

Ice Cube

Speaking of , the rapper and actor has also turned has hand to directing in the past, with 1998’s The Players Club. Its big-name cast included Bernie Mac, Jamie Foxx and Terrence Howard, and the film revolves around a strip joint, the men that run it and the women who work there.

The Players Club was commercially successful, grossing $23.3million on a $4.5million budget, with its soundtrack also well-received. Featuring tracks by , and – of course – Ice Cube, it reached number 10 on the Billboard 200.

µώ±π²β΄Η²Τ³¦Γ© has amazing things to say about Adele

"She’s funny as hell and her comebacks are legendary."

While she doesn’t have a directorial credit for a feature film under her belt (yet), did direct her 2013 documentary, Life Is But A Dream. Remember all the self-shot footage on her laptop? No doubt it won't be long until she's back behind the camera for another project.
