Helen Vollam
Brass Adjudicator
Helen is Principal Trombone of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Symphony Orchestra, and is also a member of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and Bones Apart Trombone Quartet. She is a regular guest principal with the Britten Sinfonia and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. Helen studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London with Eric Crees. During this time she was Principal Trombone of the European Union Youth Orchestra and in 1995 won the Bronze Medal in the Shell/LSO Music Scholarship, after performing the Jacob Concerto with the London Symphony Orchestra. After graduating she embarked on a busy freelance career, working with most of the UK’s symphony and opera orchestras. She was the wind finalist in the 2003 Royal Over-Seas League Music Competition, where she won the Woodwind & Brass Award and the Philip Jones Memorial Prize.
She often plays on film soundtrack recordings, including Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Inception and Brave.
Helen has given classes at the Royal Academy of Music, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal College of Music, and has adjudicated for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Young Musician, Royal Over-Seas League and International Trombone Association Competitions.
