Michael Garvey took up the position as the new Director of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales in December 2013. He is in charge of Wales’ only professional symphony orchestra in its dual role as broadcasting and national orchestra, and works closely with Principal Conductor Thomas SΓΈndergΓ¥rd striving to deliver artistic excellence and cultural innovation.

Previously, as Chief Executive of the Academy of Ancient Music, he oversaw the creation of their own record label, AAM Records, opened up new international markets for the orchestra and secured a role for the AAM as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Thames Pageant celebrations which saw the orchestra perform live to millions across the globe. Under his leadership, the AAM also spent three months as Resident Ensemble at the National Gallery and gained Associate Ensemble status at the Barbican. Before joining the AAM, Michael was General Manager at the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and has previously worked at Arts Council England and Classic FM.
