Dobrinka Tabakova

Dobrinka Tabakova is a British/Bulgarian composer who is in demand across Europe, the US, Hong Kong and Australia. Her music has captured the imagination and support of worldwide audiences and leading musicians including Janine Jansen, Maxim Rysanov, Gidon Kremer and Natalie Clein. In 2013, ECM Records released her CD β€˜String Paths’, which was named Orchestral Choice in the ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Music Magazine, hailed Contemporary Compositional Record of 2013 by the American Alto Riot and nominated in two categories of the 56th Grammy Awards.

Dobrinka graduated from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, and received a PhD from King’s College London. She is one of 20 composers chosen for the first UK New Music Biennial 2014, commissioned by the Royal Philharmonic Society. Other UK commissions have included those from ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 3, Cheltenham Festival, Britten Sinfonia and the Three Choirs Festival. From September 2014, Dobrinka begins a two year residency with the Orchestra of the Swan, for whom she will be creating, among other works, a cantata for the Shakespeare anniversary in 2016.
