Simon Cox is a London-based musician who enjoys a diverse career as a trumpet player, arranger, publisher and administrator.
He is the founder and artistic director of Septura, a brass septet which brings together London's leading players to redefine brass chamber music as a serious artistic medium. Since its launch in 2014, the group has rapidly become one of the world's most highly regarded brass ensembles, touring to the USA, Finland, Germany and Switzerland, and performing at some of the UK’s most prestigious venues and festivals, in addition to regularly broadcasting live on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 3. Septura is currently Ensemble in Residence at the Royal Academy of Music, and is recording a series of 10 discs for Naxos Records, with the first six having been released so far to widespread critical acclaim.
Simon has been Principal Trumpet of Aurora Orchestra since 2010, and was Associate Principal of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra from 2008 to 2011. He can regularly be heard performing and recording with the UK's leading orchestras.
In 2013 he co-founded Resonata Music, a publishing company which specialises in music for brass instruments by the leading classical composers, both in the form of arrangements and original works.
From 2003 to 2007 Simon studied at King’s College London and the Royal Academy of Music, later completing a PhD at the Academy with a focus on arranging for brass ensemble. He has also studied privately with Håkan Hardenberger in Sweden.
