Hectic Squad

Hectic Squad are a group of Ipswich-based MC's aged between 14 and 18. They're hoping to take their UK garage sounds to the next level.

What do you think? Have they got the skills?

mini review
The production quality's generally pretty high and the beats are slowly infectious but its still lacking something to make it really stand out and grab you. Occasionally the attitude on some of the vocals sounds a little limp. This should improve with more experience and development of their sound though, keep it up. Â鶹ԼÅÄ Suffolk wants to hear more!

Hectic have been together for about two and a half years. D.O.C and Guvner, both 18, hooked up first, then Mist, 17, Dazzla, 17, and the youngest of the group Dangermouse, 14, completed the line-up.

The squad honed their MC-ing skills in and around Ipswich, becoming residents at Affinity, a club night held around East Anglia.

Hectic describe their music as something more than garage. "We're doing a bit of what is already out there, but a little bit more added to it," says the group's manager Gambler.

"So yeah we've got a little bit of grime (type of garage beat) in there, we've got a few tracks with a few female vocalists, but at the end of the day what we wanna appeal to is the people who are ready to hear something totally different, because it isn't straight garage - the beats are a bit of old skool, new skool and a bit of my own touch."

Hectic draw influences from hip hop, bashment, garage, RnB, pretty much all 'urban' music really. Their promo track is called 'Real Quick' apparently because they had to produce it 'real quick'. But they also say it's to do with their style of rhyming, they spit lyrics quickly. They're hoping to bring their sound to a wider audience via Channel U - a digital urban music channel - which will be screening their video in a couple of weeks time.

We're reality MCs," adds Mist, "we're gonna talk reality. When we chat we're not just gonna talk rubbish, we're not gonna portray ourselves as being something that we're not. We're just giving you it real.

"We know what we're capable of doing and we know we've got the talent to get there, so why not go for it?".
