Automatic External Defibrillators

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Academy have launched a first aid training video on defibrillators - what they are, what they do, where they can be found and how to use them.

Updated: 26 March 2024

A defibrillator is a device that is used to give an electric shock to the heart of someone who is suffering a cardiac arrest. The ones you will probably be most familiar with are external defibrillators which you see used in medical dramas when someone “crashes”. The types we have at the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ are what are called Automated External Defibrillators or AEDs.

These are automatic devices which just need to be attached to the patient by someone. The devices themselves are mounted in the reception areas of all Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ buildings that house over 500 people. They’re used if some is having a suspected heart attack. After you’ve summoned help you attach the device as directed and the machine will runs various checks and if it’s safe to do so and appropriate it will administer a shock to the patient. If you would like to see how they’re used then please check out the link below.
