NBH -1 , Room LG3: Mon-Fri, 09:00-18:00 (closed on Bank Holidays). Orders collected 1000-1700hrs only
The Safety Equipment Stores is based on the Newsfloor of NBH in Room LG3 (if entering Newsfloor from the lifts by the cafeteria, the room is location at 2 o’clock near the tea/coffee station) and is staffed Monday-Friday, 9am-6pm. If users require access to the Stores but are unable to access the Newsfloor please get in touch via email or call us directly - 020 3614 5155.
Out of hours access is only granted for breaking news and can be accessed via the on-call Stores staff member in conjunction with the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ DOM’s. Please contact the Safety High Risk team for on-call staff member details.
What We Do
The Stores contain a wide range of items available for hire or purchase to Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ staff including, but not limited to, body armour, medical kits, public order equipment, emergency grab bags, cold weather gear and travel consumables. Users can visit the store during manned hours but are encouraged to contact the team via safetyequipmentstores@bbc.co.uk in the first instance to discuss any equipment needs.
Further details and contents on specific kits are available via the links at the bottom of this page.
In addition Safety Stores staff can:
- Arrange and transport equipment to any UK destination within 24hrs (charges may apply).
- Ensure that all safety equipment is correctly tested, repaired and accounted for on a regular basis.
- Help facilitate worldwide deliveries where possible (charges will apply).
Ordering Safety Equipment
- All equipment requests should be placed via email. At the point of hire/purchase you may be asked to provide a cost centre, collection & return date, user name, contact email, production name and SAP authoriser name.
- Hire equipment is charged for on a weekly basis, aside from News group users whose hires fall under the Safety Stores SLA and are not charged. This is determined by the cost centre provided.
- Consumable items are charged at a one-off purchase basis (and therefore need not be returned)
- For staff deploying to Hostile or Travel Advisory locations, the Safety Equipment Store staff will ask to see your Assignment Outline form. The High Risk Team should be in CC to these PPE requests.
- For safety equipment required at short notice, e.g. News group, the relevant assignment risk assessment should be sent by email to the stores staff - short notice checklists may be accepted to release equipment, but the assignment risk assessment needs to follow.
- License forms to travel internationally with PPE are provided where required. These should be kept with the kit for when passing through UK Customs. If accessing the Stores out-of-hours these should be completed by the user and a copy sent to the Safety Stores team. Licence copies and instructions are available in the Stores.
Returning Safety Equipment
- After use, equipment should be returned in conjunction with Stores staff who will assist and additionally, can arrange for courier collection if required. Hired equipment will continue to accrue charges until physically received back into Stores.
- All equipment should be returned in serviceable condition - any items returned damaged or not returned will be charged to the hiring cost code at replacement cost
- Safety equipment not returned by the agreed return date will incur additional hire charges.
