Alice Sara Ott is one of the young pianists making their Proms debuts this year
Benjamin Grosvenor turns 19 just eight days before his Proms debut, when he becomes the youngest soloist to perform at the First Night. He returns later in the season with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain () and leads a strong selection of young pianists making Proms debuts this year, including Khatia Buniatishvili (), David Fray (), Dejan Lazić ( & ), Alice Sara Ott () and Yuja Wang ().
French brothers Renaud (violin) and Gautier CapuΓ§on (cello) explore the Proms strand of multi-instrument concertos when they join forces with Martha Argerich in their joint Proms debut to perform Beethoven's Concerto for violin, cello and piano (). They return the following evening for Brahms's Concerto for violin and cello (), which is recorded for broadcast on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Two on 23 July.
Among this year's most unlikely debutants are pianist and comedian Tim Minchin and DJ Switch. Minchin hosts the first Comedy Prom with a star-studded line-up of music and laughter, featuring comedian Sue Perkins, soprano Susan Bullock, the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Concert Orchestra and other performers to be announced (), while DJ Switch becomes the first turntable soloist at the Proms when he joins the National Youth Orchestra for Gabriel Prokofiev's Concerto For Turntables And Orchestra (). Both concerts are televised.
The irreverent Spaghetti Western Orchestra also appears for the first time, bringing its unique take on Western soundtracks, particularly the music of Ennio Morricone, in a Late Night Prom to be shown on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Four. The distinctive Australian quintet play on more than 100 instruments – if you can call asthma inhalers, cereal packets and other unlikely objects "instruments" ().
The leading South Indian female vocalist of her generation, Aruna Sairam, and her protΓ©gΓ©, Hari Sivanesan (veena), present the results of their ongoing collaboration as part of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 3 World Routes Academy ().
Other notable Proms debuts include the Elias Quartet (), organist and composer Thierry Escaich (), and jazz singer Claire Martin in a centenary celebration for Stan Kenton ().
