The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Proms are broadcast live exclusively on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 3. For the first time, in 2011 all Proms will be broadcast in HD Sound via bbc.co.uk/radio3. All Proms are available to hear online for seven days after broadcast.

Radio 3 provides extensive context around the festival's concerts at the Royal Albert Hall and Cadogan Hall as well as accompanying events at the Royal College of Music with related programming featured across the schedule. This includes interviews and performances by Proms artists on In Tune, a Proms focus in Classical Collection, Summer CD Review and Composer Of The Week, regular Proms updates from presenters in Breakfast and full relays of the four Proms Plus Portraits, which, in conversation with the composers themselves, explore the music of leading contemporary figures. Norman Lebrecht also interviews leading musicians about their lives and careers on Monday evenings during the season.

Twenty Minutes (concert interval programmes) features selections from the Proms Plus pre-concert events including discussions around this year's featured composers and a series of literary talks to complement the wider Proms season.

This literary offering also includes a new competition to find the best poetry inspired by music in this year's concerts. Writers involved include Ian McMillan, Kate Mosse, Michael Rosen, Ali Smith and Sarah Dunant. The series will also include a new strand exploring musicians' literary passions, in which Proms musicians introduce a personal choice of readings from their favourite authors.
