For blind and low vision users, as well as some users with cognitive impairments, both the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ iPlayer iOS and Android apps have labels on all the Chromecast buttons that can be read out.

Before we began work we already had a lot of data and user feedback about likes and dislikes with the existing iPlayer website. This was fed into the design process helping to shape wireframes and UX along with the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ requirements of standards and guidelines.

The new iPlayer has been designed for a multiscreen world, so the experience is consistent, but optimised across PC, tablet, mobile and TV devices and we've built it in such a way that we can rapidly develop and release new features across those four screens.

In June last year we published a draft of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Mobile Accessibility Standards and Guidelines. Since then we've been listening to feedback, reviewing the standards and guidelines, and refining techniques so that today the standards can finally come out of draft.

Future Media Standards and Guidelines Website Refresh

Today Standards and Guidelines has changed. We’ve removed a dozen guidelines that were out-of-date, cross-linked much of the design information to its sister site www.bbc.co.uk/gel, changed the colour and font of the site to bring it more in line with GEL and removed some broken links.
