Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ editorial standards, controls and compliance – statement by the Trust

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Trust met on Thursday 24 January 2008 and received a progress report from the Director-General on actions taken by the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ to address the causes of editorial breaches disclosed last year.

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Executive has today issued a separate statement summarising the Director-General's report and outlining two further breaches reported to the Trust today, both of which occurred during 2006. The Trust has issued the following statement.

Statement by the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Trust

"The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Trust was pleased to receive the Director-General's report today on action taken to address the problems which led to serious breaches of editorial standards. We welcome the progress which has been made since July last year.

"The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's swift action and full disclosure seems to have played an important part in maintaining confidence amongst the public in the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's commitment to putting its house in order. It is the public who own and pay for the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ and we all have a duty to ensure their high expectations continue to be met. An independent review by Ronald Neil for the Trust is now underway to assess the impact of the measures taken.

"The Trust is satisfied that the two breaches from the past which have come to light since the Director-General's report in the summer do not raise any new issues which require the executive team to rethink its action plan and we have nothing to add to our previous statements."
