2000: Fuel protests come to an end

The fuel protests that paralysed Britain for seven days ended on 15 September 2000.

The movement began as a response to the rise of UK fuel prices, causing a crisis in the NHS, emptying supermarket shelves and closing schools.

The protests ended with an ultimatum from truckers, who demanded that the government cut fuel duties.
