Props To The Shops

We thought it was about time that we gave some OneMusic love to all the independent record shops around the country… cos if it wasn't for them where would you be able to get those Melt Banana 7"s?

Each month we'll be featuring a local independent record shop nominated by YOU… are they the nicest people in the world? Do they feed your vinyl addiction?

Let us know which shop you want to nominate and why at onemusic@bbc.co.uk

Rubadub

Rubadub in Glasgow

Rubadub has been in business for almost 15 years now, starting life as a small shop in deepest, darkest Paisley and moving to it's current city centre location in Glasgow around 5 years ago.

The shop is best know for its down to earth attitude, providing people with a huge range of music from the latest trends in minimal House and Techno, Hip Hop, Soul, Jazz and Reggae to gems from Detroit, Chicago and the indeed, the World's best electronic music history.

Almost every member of staff runs either a club night, a record label, or in a few cases, both so its fair to say that we have the finger on the pulse when it comes to new music and finding out what people want to hear whether at home or on the dance-floor.

Rubadub Top Ten:
Sleepless Crew - Spell House (Dalriada Ltd)
Gosub – The Future Is Enslaved (Point One)
EPY - Affluenza (Trust)
7L & Esoteric - Play Dumb (Babygrande)
Avida – Vorrei Tanto (Crème)
Loose Fingers- What Is House (Alleviated)
V/A - Sou Funk (Flamin Hotz)
Can – I Want More (Mute)
Quasimode – Down In The Village – (Raw Fusion)
Adam X - Excerpts From A Fate Unknown (MNX-005)

Action Records

Action Records in Preston

Action Records started in 1979 on a market stall in Blackpool and in 1981 moved to shop premises in Preston where we have been ever since. These days, their main business is done through their website.

We have also established our own record label, releasing records by bands such as The Boo Radleys, Dandelion Adventure, Big Red Bus, Genocides, Tompaulin, Fi-Lo Radio, Monkey Steals The Drum amongst others. Our biggest project so far has been with The Fall and Mark E Smith as a solo performer.

Raconteurs – Steady As She Goes (XL)
Hank III – Straight To Hell (Bruc Records)
Immediate – Make Our Devils Flow EP (Fantastic Plastic)

Sounds of the Universe

Sounds of the Universe in London

Sounds Of The Universe as nominated by Louise the Producer!

Sounds Of The Universe in the heart of London's Soho is a regular haunt of the OneMusic team. You can get everything from Jamaican Dancehall 7's to ubercool Berlin Electronica and it's service with a smile.

They also run the Soul Jazz Record Label whos delights are often heard on the OneMusic show. The Tropicalia compilation of Brazilian beats was the latest addition to Huw's record box, and there are new 12"s from Digital Mystikz on the way which will be getting a spin at some point too.

Sounds of the Universe Staff Picks:

1. Rekid - Made In Menorca (Soul Jazz) Futuristic soundtracks and exotic electronic disco forthcoming on Soul Jazz

2. J Dilla - Donuts (Stones Throw) Rough, hip-hop instrumentals from the beatmaster. He will be sorely missed!

3. Dabrye feat. MF Doom - Air (Ghostly Int.) One of the most perfect partnerships in hip-hop. It doesn't dissapoint!

4. Digital Mystikz - Misty Winter / Conference (Soul Jazz) The mighty 'dubstepping' Digital Mystikz on Soul Jazz. More to come!

5. Digital Mystikz - Walkin' With Jah / Earth A Run Red (Soul Jazz) Second 12" from the Digital Mystikz on Soul Jazz. Don't miss!

6. TOM Project - Renaissance (Sound Signature) Slo-mo avant-acid house from Theo Parrish and chums!

7. The Blow - The Love That I Crave (Strategy mix) (Audraglint) Gorgeous amalgam of synth pop with an old skool house vibe!

8. Horace Andy - Love Hangover (Wackies) Great version of the Diana Ross smash!

9. Analord - Chosen Lords (Rephlex) CD collection of the highlights from Aphex Twins 'Analord' series

10. Sly Mongoose - Snakes & Ladders (Rub n' Tug remix) (Mule Music) Percussive dub disco monster from NYC's Rub n' Tug! Stunning!
