Hospital cleaner Sandra is a mum of 3 grown up girls. Sewing has always been part of making a home for her family – be that making curtains out of a bedspread, fixing her husband’s jeans or creating a bespoke prom dress for her daughter. Her daughters know they can always rely on their mum to alter any high street bargain or make a unique outfit from scratch. Sandra’s middle daughter secretly applied to the programme on her mum’s behalf, believing Sandra wouldn’t do it herself ‘due to lack of confidence’. It was quite a surprise when Sandra received a letter inviting her to the audition.

From a family of keen dressmakers, Sandra has a suitcase full of vintage patterns passed down from her mum, her gran and her nan. Now she’s teaching her daughter to sew too. Apart from sewing she enjoys spending time with her husband tending to their allotment.
