Kizzy Crawford
Merthyr Tydfil’s Kizzy Meriel Crawford has achieved a lot already.
Every once in a long while, an artist of such natural, effortless musicality and poise emerges, that those of us who work day in, day out at the coalface, seeking new and interesting music-makers, just have to stand back and salute the heavens. She won the Arts Connect Original Singer-Songwriter prize in 2012. She has performed live in front of hundreds of thousands on Welsh T.V., played at WOMEX when it was hosted in Cardiff in 2013, and released a critically lauded debut E.P., ‘The Starling’, that became a mainstay of the Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio Wales and Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio Cymru playlists.
Kizzy’s prodigious songwriting ability naturally fuses disparate genres (folk / soul / jazz) and brings something genuine, fresh and exciting to the musical landscape. Think Joan Armatrading sings John Martyn, but then think again, because no simple soundbite can sum up Kizzy’s music.
