Imelda Marcos's thousands of shoes

When the President of the Philippines Ferdinand Marcos went into exile in 1986, protestors found many expensive items in his family's residence of MalacaΓ±ang Palace, bought at a time where millions of Filipinos were living in poverty. Among them were an estimated 3,000 pairs of shoes belonging to the first lady, Imelda Marcos.

In 2001, more than 700 pairs were put on display at the Marikina Shoe Museum. Ella Rule tells the story behind Imelda's collection.
