Understanding flamenco
El Ingles, guitarist with Jaleo Flamenco, analyses some of the components of bulerias. Bulerias is a highly rhythmic Flamenco dance form. Of special importance are the 'palmas' or handclapping patterns on the beat, and the 'contra palmas' filling the spaces between the beat. El Ingles explains how the music is structured, gathering in pace and intensity, breaking and then building up again. The clip includes footage of the Flamenco ensemble of a singer, dancers and guitarists.
