Scales and modes in flamenco music
This clip discusses the three scales or modes commonly used in flamenco music – major, minor and Phrygian. A flamenco guitarist, El Ingles, demonstrates how a Phrygian scale can be played by starting on the third note of the corresponding major scale and notes its rather 'Arabic' flavour. This is then exemplified in the context of a flamenco ensemble performance.
