Rubbish day
Maribou storks are scavengers, with a particular liking for rotting flesh, so the rubbish tip from the lodge is quite an attractive proposition. But given half a chance, these unattractive looking birds will also take small, live prey, and a baby mongoose is the perfect size for them. The local stripe family iof banded mongoose can't resist the rubbish tip either, and for them the chance of such rich pickings is greater than the threat of becoming dinner themselves for the maribou storks.
