An unusual noise echoes around the glens of the Highlands - the autumn rut of the red deer stags is taking place. They call to establish dominance: sorting out who's who and also trying to impress the girls.

The males chase each other over the treacherous ground, where a fall or injury could lead to a slow and agonising death. By the time December comes, the deer begin to move away from the bleak high ground. Those that remain are always moving in search of shelter from the cold, wet weather.
