Venison for dinner
After being extinct in the UK for 100 years then reintroduced, the white-tailed or sea eagle is doing well in the highlands of Scotland where a pair has nested at Loch Marie for the last 10 years.
As scavengers, these birds miss nothing, and the body of a red deer down by the water's edge is a good meal. Many deer die here in the spring following the weeks and weeks of cold rain blown in from the Atlantic. A hooded crow looks quite large close up, but it has nothing on the size of a sea eagle. Hooded crows wait until the eagle has opened the deer carcass with its huge beak - only then can it share in the rich pickings.
