Spring chicks
The sea eagles of Loch Marie have chosen to nest on an island thick with ancient pine trees. They will use the same nest year after year, until it is blown down by a winter storm.
The two chicks in this nest look well. It is not unusual to lose one or all of the offspring in this cold, harsh environment, since the chicks are very vulnerable, especially after hatching. Last year all the chicks had died of pneumonia by this point.
The eagles stay close to the sea, as this is where most of their food comes from. They feed their chicks on mackerel and other fish, which are plentiful this year.
