Further Information:

This week’s guest is a man who’s been a key figure in major projects to take the Christian message beyond church buildings.Β Β Β Thousands took to the streets in the March for Jesus movement, small armies picked up litter in city centres and on rundown estates, and 25,000 young people get charged up at the Soul Survivor festivals every year.Β
Steve Clifford has been a leader in them all, and for the past five years, he’s been national director of the Evangelical Alliance, an umbrella organisation which reckons to represent two million of the UK’s Christians.
His is a prime position for assessing what’s often presented as the most flourishing expression of church life in these islands. In many places it bucks the general trend of decline.  But it’s not immune from some of the controversies which beset whole denominations - and recent challenging of its position on sexuality and Biblical authority suggests that non everyone shares the same certainties.
So what is an evangelical today? And what are the key issues facing the movement?Β Β During a visit to the offices of the Evangelical Alliance in Wales Steve Clifford talks to Roy Jenkins about these and other issues.
