Human Planet Prom
The Human Planet Prom is inspired by the landmark Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ One show and accompanying Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 3 series, Music Planet. It features music from the series by Nitin Sawhney performed by the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Concert Orchestra under Charles Hazlewood, as well as music and musicians from Greenland, Mongolia, Papua New Guinea, the Sakha Republic and Zambia, brought to London for this event ( and repeated on ).
The Human Planet Prom is presented by John Hurt, the voice of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ One series, and includes big-screen highlights from the TV programmes. It also includes a performance by the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Concert Orchestra on instruments created by some of the UK's top instrument-makers out of junk, broken furniture and the contents of roadside skips. The concert is the climax of a new documentary, Scrapheap Orchestra, for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Four, to be broadcast in the autumn. The Human Planet Prom will be broadcast on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Four on 5 August.
The Human Planet magic spreads into Hyde Park for an afternoon of free family fun in Kensington Gardens. Human Planet in the Park will feature performances by a selection of musicians from the main Prom, as well as the chance to get hands-on with the Scrapheap Orchestra instruments and a host of family-friendly workshops for all ages and abilities, inspired by music traditions from around the world ().
