Jake Humphrey drops in at the Royal Norfolk Show

CΒι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ and Sportsround presenter Jake Humphrey returned to his roots to visit the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ stand at the Royal Norfolk Show.

The TV personality - who grew up in Norfolk - was interviewed on stage in front of a crowd of fans. He told us why reporting for top sports show Match Of The Day has been a dream come true.

TV presenter Jake Humphrey took time away from London's TV studios to visit a studio of a different sort at this year's Royal Norfolk Show.

The sports-mad TV personality drew in the crowds at the specially-designed Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Studio at the Costessey showground on the outskirts of Norwich.

Jake - who was brought up in the county and went to the city's Hewett School - said he was pleased to be back home and enjoyed the chance to eat one or two hog roast rolls.

Fans packed out the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ marquee to catch a glimpse of the CΒι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ and Sportsround presenter as he answered questions on stage.

Jake's pen also got plenty of use as he signed dozens of autographs and gave out his top tips to those keen to make it onto the TV screen.

Big break

He explained during his chat on stage that it's not always easy to get a break.

"The thing is in television success basically brings more success," he said.

"It's so difficult if you've never been a TV presenter before and maybe you've filmed yourself doing a bit of presenting with your friend and you're sending it off to TV companies. That is the hardest it will ever be."

Jake first started presenting on Norwich-based station Rapture TV. He began as a researcher, where he had to find stories and check facts. Then the usual presenter fell ill and Jake stepped in.

"Once you've got through that stage and you've got a job on the television, someone else will go, 'Well, someone's given them a job so they must be quite good so I'll give them a job as well,'" he said.

"That's how I ended up at CΒι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ and doing loads of different shows."

Netting the Sportsround job

Jake has been a favourite on CΒι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ since 2001 and he's fronted shows including Fame Academy, Rule The School, Against All Odds, Saturday Show, Bamzooki and Sportsround.

Getting the job on Sportsround has been one of the Norwich City fan's biggest achievements. He had to go for three auditions before he was told he had got it.

"I wanted to be a sports broadcaster, I wanted to be presenting the 2012 Olympics, Match Of The Day and the World Cup final," he said.

"So I told everyone sport was what I wanted to do, then Sportsround came up and I auditioned, but it still wasn't easy."

Being the face of Sportsround meant Jake got the glamorous job of following last year's World Cup action. He had to stay in Germany for six weeks, which he loved.

Dream show

His passion for sport has also led him to be picked to report for Football Focus and Match Of The Day. For Jake, it's been a dream come true - but it's been nerve-wracking too.

"If you'd have said to me six months ago, 'What's your dream show?' Match Of The Day would have been it," he said.

"But that's kind of tempered with a bit of fear.

"You think, 'Has it come a bit too soon, do I deserve to get Match Of The Day' because what you don't want to get a great opportunity, mess it up and then never get another chance ever again, so you really have to do yourself justice on this show.

"On a show like that - your first Match Of The Day - the bosses are watching so carefully and so closely - that's the most pressure you'll ever feel in television," he added.

In August though, Jake will be feeling nerves of a different kind when he walks down the aisle to marry his long-time girlfriend Harriet.
