Region Profile
The North Wales region is made up of nine constituencies.
This region elects thirteen members, nine directly elected constituency members and four additional members. It is a mix of rural and urban areas. The west is largely rural with the university city of Bangor as its biggest population centre with around 18,000 residents. The eastern part has a higher population and contains Wrexham - the region's largest town with a population of more than 60,000 people. The seaside town of Llandudno is a popular tourist destination. The western counties of Ynys Mon (the island of Anglesey) and Gwynedd are home to large numbers of Welsh speakers. The constituencies which make up North Wales - from west to east - are: Ynys Mon, Arfon, Aberconwy, Clwyd West, Clwyd South, Vale of Clwyd, Delyn, Alyn & Deeside and Wrexham. At the 2011 election, the Conservatives had 2 North Wales regional AMs and Plaid Cymru and the Liberal Democrats had one each.
