Concert Information

Ludovic Morlot returns to the Bridgewater Hall with a buffet of modernist French fancies to excite and delight. From the bristling buzz of Dukas’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice to the enchanting hypnotism of Dutilleux’s Le temps l’horloge the Â鶹ԼÅÄ Philharmonic will be joined by soprano Elizabeth Atherton as we paint pictures of France through the decades. Elegantly breaking up this feast of popular classics is some food for thought in Birtwistle’s Mahlerian inspired, The Triumph of Time, a mesmerising and introspective piece that came to exemplify his processional style.

Pre-concert performance, Foyer Bar, 6.30pm

Ahead of the concert, Royal Northern College of Music student, Tom Dale is performing guitar in the Foyer Bar.

Born in Lincolnshire, Tom Dale is a diverse and multi-skilled musician who began studying the guitar at the age of 8. He is currently in his 4th year at the Royal Northern College of Music. Before joining the RNCM in 2019, Tom had achieved a distinction for his grade 8 ABRSM exam as well as completing the ARSM diploma.

Despite being a predominantly classical musician, Tom prides himself on exploring a large range of genres and adapting to his musical surroundings. During his studies so far, he has played a role in multiple fusion and afrobeat ensembles as well as a guitar-clarinet gypsy jazz duo. On classical guitar, he is an experienced solo performer but has also played regularly in ensembles, duos and in mixed chamber groupings.

Tom Dale appears by kind permission of the RNCM.
