Concert Information

Following his resounding success at the Â鶹ԼÅÄ Proms, John StorgÃ¥rds and the Â鶹ԼÅÄ Philharmonic return to Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 15, complete with its playful quotations and curious allusions, but first, Nicolas Alstaedt joins us for a flirtation with the past as Tchaikovsky dons his most Classical guise in his joyous Rococo Variations. Playing the part of prelude to the whole programme is Rachmaninov’s The Isle of the Dead, a symphonic poem brimming with colour. Rachmaninov had only seen a black and white reproduction of the painting which it is based upon.

Pre-concert performance, Foyer Bar, 6.30pm

Ahead of the concert, the Lumiere Duo from the Royal Northern College of Music will be performing in the Foyer Bar.

Ellie Marks violin
Ellie Wood harp

The Lumiere Duo are a collaboration between violinist, Ellie Marks, and harpist, Ellie Wood. With both currently studying at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, they have experience as solo, orchestral, chamber and background musicians.

This more unusual partnership of violin and harp provides a blend of diverse sounds, from familiar classics and popular music to traditional and folk music as well as brand new arrangements. The Duo have experience performing in a range of settings including at special events and weddings.
