Bluey: DIY Christmas wrapping paper

You will need

  • A potato
  • Brown card
  • Blue or beige ribbon
  • Felt tip pen
  • Brush
  • Bluey paint (light and dark blue)
  • Paper towel
  • Plain paper recycled newspapers
  • Scissors (grown-up use only)
  • Safe glue

How to make your own wrapping paper:

Instructions for grown-ups

  1. Go on a treasure hunt with your little ones to find a good sized potato before you start crafting.
  2. Ask your child to draw a bone on the brown card to create the present label. Then cut this out and put to one side for later.
  3. Now get the potato, cut the potato in half, and dry both halves with paper towel.
  4. Ask your little ones to draw a heart shape on one slice, then a bone on the other with a pen or pencil.
  5. Then carve the shapes out using a knife to create your own stamps.
  6. Prepare the paint and stamps ready for the fun part.
  7. Help the little ones to apply paint onto the stamps with a brush, testing and dabbing off the excess on a scrap of paper.
  8. Stamp your design all over your wrapping paper and let dry. If you already have a specific box to wrap, you can precut the paper to fit that box.
  9. Cut the paper to fit your present and wrap normally.
  10. Finish it off by gluing the back of Christmas label from step 2 to your present and tie it with the ribbon.
