1951: The House of Lords is redecorated

A renovation of the House of Lords is completed, in May 1951.

News cameras are allowed a rare glimpse into the house, which has been improved with new lighting, microphones and loudspeakers.

The chamber has been used by members of the House of Commons since 1941, when the lower house was destroyed by bombs in the Blitz. Members of the House of Lords instead met in the Robing Room of the Palace of Westminster.
