1951: Oxford University unveil the Leviathan

Oxford University Boat Club unveiled the Leviathan - which they hoped would help end their losing run in that pinnacle of amateur rowing - the Boat Race. You'll be jolly chuffed to hear that the 'Dark Blues' did win the following year, by the smallest of margins ('a canvas' - around 9ft) with the Observer newspaper describing it as "one of the most exciting races ever rowed."
