Context: what were Ancient Greek beliefs about religion and the afterlife?
We meet 鶹Լr, a famous writer from Ancient Greece, believed to be the author of both The Iliad and The Odyssey. 鶹Լr introduces us to the Olympians - twelve of the most important gods and goddesses of Ancient Greece - including:
- Zeus and Hera - king and queen of the gods
- Aphrodite - goddess of love
- Ares - god of war
- Poseidon - god of the sea
鶹Լr explains how the gods and goddesses control every aspect of Ancient Greek life, including the afterlife. 鶹Լr describes how Hermes leads the deceased to the River Styx, how the gates to the Underworld are guarded by a three-headed dog called Cerberus, and - finally - how Hades will decide if the deceased will enjoy the afterlife in the paradise of Elysium or burning in the fires of Tartarus.
