On this year's Gifford Lectures
Professor of Social and Political Ethics at the University of Chicago, Jean Bethke Elshtain came to the public eye in the United States in 1995 when her book Democracy on Trial aired her concerns on the health of their democratic society.
She has just finished giving this year's prestigious Gifford lectures in Edinburgh this week, joining a line of eminent thinkers and writers who have gone before her, Noam Chomsky, Iris Murdoch, Albert Einstein to name but a few. Jean joins Martha from our Edinburgh studio.
