Headaches

There must be very few people who’ve never experienced a headache. But for some a pain in the head is more than a minor inconvenience that can be alleviated with one or two painkillers.

Migraine and Cluster Headaches
The sufferers of migraine and cluster headaches are unable to function normally for hours or even days, and are in excruciating pain.

Treatments
In Check Up this week Barbara Myers will be joined by Professor Peter Goadsby of the Headache Group at the Institute of Neurology in London. He’ll be in the studio to answer calls on the difference between migraine, cluster headaches and neuralgia and the latest drugs to treat them. Why are anti-migraine drugs available in a variety of forms from traditional pills to sprays and slow release tablets? Is a dose of oxygen the best treatment for a cluster headache?

Children
As well as dealing with questions about recurrent problems such as migraine and cluster headaches, Professor Goadsby will be talking about new daily persistent headache, which can occur suddenly, and about how to help children who complain about pains in their heads.
