Kaien Cruz
DJ Edu meets Kaien Cruz, an LA-based South African artist whose career has already seen them have a chart-topping hit and tour with Justin Bieber.
Kaien Cruz is an independent artist from South Africa, now based in Los Angeles in the USA. Cruz dropped their first song, a collaboration with Sketchy Bongo called Love Me in the Dark, in 2017. It was an overnight success, topping the South African charts, and it caught the ear of none other than Canadian superstar Justin Bieber. Bieber asked Cruz, who was just 18 and almost unknown, to open for his sold-out Purpose tour.
Cruz identifies as non-binary, using the pronouns they/them, but as they told TIA there is much more to them and their musical journey than this fact.
