Shay Lia
DJ Edu chats to Djibouti's Shay Lia about growing up on the Horn of Africa, plus the 10-in-10 mix features the new track from Burna Boy.
This Is Africa pays its first visit to Djibouti as DJ Edu interviews Shay Lia, an artist with impeccable political credentials. Not only was her uncle the Prime Minister when she was growing up in the tiny east African country, but Michelle Obama also picked her track Good Together for her Spotify playlist, surely making Shay Djibouti’s musical first lady.
With camels outside her school and relatives gifting her family goats, she discusses what it was like growing up on the Horn of Africa and how it influenced her.
Now based in Montreal, Canada, we also hear why Shay is keen to bring more of an African flavour to her music, starting with her latest track which features Nigerian musical royalty and former TIA guest Adekunle Gold.
Plus, DJ Edu drops the new track from Burna Boy in his 10-in-10 mix along with offerings from countries across the Motherland including Angola, Uganda and Sierra Leone.
