Gyakie and Jooel
DJ Edu meets Gyakie, a new star from Ghana who's making herself known around the world, and Jooel, a young rapper putting smiles on faces in Sierra Leone.
Gyakie could be described as Ghana’s new musical sensation. Her song Forever is a massive hit, she’s been signed to Sony and is the first African woman to have been chosen by Spotify for the Spotify Equal programme, aimed at fostering equity in the music industry. This means that her image has been up in lights in New York’s famous Time Square.
Twenty-year-old Gyakie tells Edu how she is managing to balance the demands of her burgeoning career with her studies – she is still at university – and what it was like collaborating with Nigerian man of the moment Omah Ley.
Also on the programme, Jooel, another young talent, this time from Sierra Leone. He’s been putting a smile on the faces of his countrymen with his humorous take on Afro-rap.
