More than half a million new vehicles ranging from cars to diggers are handled by the port of Southampton every year. Every one of them has to be driven on or off a ship.
Stevedore Georgie Cunningham has been working at the docks for over six years and her job is to shift the vehicles.
Some ships using the port can carry as many as 7,000 vehicles.
Ships in dock do not make money so every second counts when it comes to loading them up at the port.
We join Georgie as she deals with the challenge of unloading a batch of luxury cars worth Β£50,000 each onto a crowded car deck, dent-free.
Once the cars are safely off the ship, Georgie’s next job is to pick up yet more vehicles from the port’s exclusive car park, and load them onto the ship, again ensuring that they do not get damaged.
