Rosemary Joshua’s career as a soprano has spanned over three decades. Born in Cardiff, she studied at the Royal College of Music
She has appeared on all the main international stages in the world, including the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Glyndebourne, the Metropolitan Opera in New York and La Scala Milan. Her roles include Adele Die Fledermaus, Tytania A Midsummer Night's Dream, Anne Trulove The Rake's Progress, Despina Cosi fan tutte and Susanna Le nozze di Figaro. Rosemary made a name for herself above all as a specialist Handel interpreter and has an extensive discography in the baroque repertoire. Her discography includes two duo recitals with Sarah Connolly of Handel and Purcell duets live from the Wigmore Hall.
Rosemary has performed in the world’s major concert halls with conductors including Roger Norrington, Colin Davis, Simon Rattle, Vladimir Jurowski, Charles Mackerras, Marc Minkowski, William Christie and Gustavo Dudamel.
Rosemary has been teaching, coaching and advising young singers since 2015 and collaborates frequently with various young artists programmes, including The Zürich Opera Studio and the Bolshoi young artists’ programme. She was appointed as head of the Dutch National Opera Studio in September 2018.
Since 2021, Rosemary has appeared on the Dutch TV series, ARIA, in which ten promising young opera singers sing an aria each week and are judged by a professional jury, which Rosemary leads.

Gwnaeth Rosemary enw iddi ei hun yn anad dim fel dehonglydd Handel arbenigol ac mae ganddi gatalog helaeth o recordiau yn y repertoire baróc. Mae ei recordiadau’n cynnwys dau ddatganiad o ddeuawdau Handel a Purcell gyda Sarah Connolly, yn fyw o Neuadd Wigmore.
Mae Rosemary wedi perfformio ym mhrif neuaddau cyngerdd y byd gyda’r arweinyddion Roger Norrington, Colin Davis, Simon Rattle, Vladimir Jurowski, Charles Mackerras, Marc Minkowski, William Christie a Gustavo Dudamel.
Mae Rosemary wedi bod yn addysgu, yn hyfforddi ac yn cynghori cantorion ifanc ers 2015 ac mae’n cydweithio’n aml ag amryw o raglenni i artistiaid ifanc, gan gynnwys The Festivalic Opera Studio a rhaglen artistiaid ifanc Bolshoi. Cafodd ei phenodi’n bennaeth Stiwdio Opera Genedlaethol yr Iseldiroedd ym mis Medi 2018.
Ers 2021, mae Rosemary wedi ymddangos ar gyfres deledu yn yr Iseldiroedd, ARIA, lle mae deg o gantorion opera ifanc addawol yn canu aria bob wythnos ac yn cael eu beirniadu gan reithgor proffesiynol, sy’n cael ei arwain gan Rosemary.
